Maintenance costs of LEDs
You probably
already know: LED lighting is not only more environmentally friendly, but it also
saves money on your electricity bill. But one of the most underrated benefits
of LED lighting is the lower maintenance cost. This will pay for your initial
costs at the speed of light - and you will not spend more during the lifetime!
Learn now how to save on maintenance and replacement costs with LED. You will
also find a direct comparison table to traditional bulbs. We wish you an
exciting read!
Key facts at a glance:
·
LEDs
are not only more economical than conventional lights, but they also need less
maintenance and replacement
·
LED
eliminates significant replacement, accessories and labor costs
·
Up
to three times longer life
·
Longer
warranty period than traditional bulbs
When do maintenance costs arise?
Many bulbs
break down sooner than necessary. Then they lose their luminosity, turn yellow
or start to flicker. This not only costs nerves but also time and money.
Because spending can pile up if you continue to use traditional bulbs such as
compact fluorescent and gas discharge lamps, or buy bulbs of poor quality.
Maintenance costs can manifest in the following three dimensions:
1. Cost of replacement lamps and
accessories
2. Labor costs
3. Guarantee protection and duration
Cost of replacement lamps and
accessories
No question:
If bulbs are defective, new must come! For example, flickering can severely
damage the eye and lead to long-term fatigue and migraine headaches, according
to the European standard EN 12464-1flicker-free lighting in the workplace.
Failure to comply with the standard can in the worst case result in heavy
fines. So you owe good lighting to yourself and your employees. But especially
in companies, many bulbs come together, which must be replaced incl. required
accessories. Due to the shorter life of conventional lamps, a replacement can be
required every three to five years. That means unnecessary costs that you
should no longer tolerate. Switching to LED means you do not have to replace
your lights for up to 30 years and save a lot of money. This also amortizes
your initial costs quickly. More information on amortization can be found in
our blog article Return on Investment by LED.
Labor costs
In certain
commercial buildings, such as in industry, the lighting is often mounted on a
high ceiling. In this way, it is difficult to replace the lamps or panels
themselves. They often need the help of a hired mechanic with a passenger
elevator, who also has to be paid. On the other hand, if you take over the
exchange yourself, valuable (working) time may be lost.
Lifespan
While
conventional illuminants often lose their luminosity after about 3,000 hours,
or they are completely defective, LEDs hold 50,000-100,000 hours, depending on
the model. What does that mean for you specifically? A short calculation
example:
Assuming
that your lights are lit 60 hours a week during regular business operations,
this makes for 52 weeks a year about 3,000 hours. With 20,000 hours of service
life, you will benefit from your LEDs for around 6 years, and even over 30 years
at 100,000 hours! Conventional bulbs with a life of 1 year, however, are very
disadvantageous.
Should your
LEDs ever break down early, you benefit from our lighting direct warranty of up
to 5 years on LED products. This too is significantly longer than traditional
lights. Switching to LED is worthwhile in many ways and saves you a lot of
money in the long term.
